Want to display customer reviews from Google on your Big Cartel store? This guide explains how to add the Widget House Google Reviews Widget to one selected page or display it across your storefront.
Before you begin, make sure you've created your widget and copied the installation code from your Widget House dashboard
Step-by-step guide to getting your Widget House widget code
Choose How You Want to Display the Widget
Add the widget to a single page
Log in to your Big Cartel admin and open the store where you want to install the Google Reviews Widget.
Open Shop designer. Depending on your Big Cartel admin interface, you may find it directly in the sidebar or under Shop settings → Shop designers.
Open your Widget House dashboard and copy the complete installation code generated for your Google Reviews Widget.
The installation code contains a loading <script> and a <div> container with your unique widget ID. Keep both parts together and in the original order.
Plan requirement: Custom Pages are available on Big Cartel's Platinum and Diamond plans. Editing Advanced Theme Code also requires a premium plan with code customization access.
If you plan to use the Code tab, download a backup of your current theme before making changes. Open Shop designer → Code, scroll to the Advanced template code section, and click Download your theme code.
Step 1: Open Big Cartel and Copy the Widget Code

Big Cartel provides two ways to add a static widget to a selected page.
Default store page or template: Use the Code tab when you want to add the widget to a page or template included with your Big Cartel theme.
Custom Page: Use the Pages section when you want to add the widget to a Custom Page that you created yourself.
Important: Default templates can be shared by multiple storefront pages. For example, changing a product template can affect more than one product page.
If you need the widget on one unique informational page, such as a reviews, about, or testimonials page, using a Custom Page is usually the most straightforward option.
Step 2: Choose the Correct Installation Method

For a default store page: Open the Code tab in Shop designer and select the page or template where you want the Google Reviews Widget to appear.
For a Custom Page: Open the Pages section and select the page that you want to edit.
Use the page editor controls to switch from the regular text editor to HTML mode.
If you need to create a new Custom Page, click Add a new page, enter its name and initial content, and click Done before continuing.
Remember that Custom Page changes are saved with Done but do not appear on the live storefront until you publish them.
Step 3: Open the Required Page or Template

The Google Reviews Widget is static, which means it appears exactly where its installation code is placed.
Choose a visible position where the reviews support the surrounding content. For example, you can place the widget below an introduction, after a product or service description, above a call-to-action, or near the bottom of the page.
In a default page template, paste the code near the beginning of the main page markup to display the reviews above the content, or near the end of the main markup to display them below it.
In a Custom Page, insert the code between complete HTML elements in the page's HTML editor.
Do not paste the widget code inside an opening HTML tag, paragraph, link, image, form, or another <script> element.
A wide content area is usually the best choice for a Google Reviews carousel, slider, or grid.
Step 4: Choose the Exact Position for the Widget

Paste the complete Google Reviews Widget installation code from your Widget House dashboard into the selected position.
Keep the loading <script> and the Google Reviews <div> container together and in the original order.
Do not remove, split, rename, or change any part of the installation code.
Do not wrap the code in additional <pre>, <code>, or <iframe> tags.
Click Done to save the page or template changes inside Shop designer.
The code shown in the screenshots is an example. Always use the installation code generated for your own widget so the correct reviews, settings, and design are displayed.
Step 5: Paste the Google Reviews Widget Code

Review the updated page in the Shop designer preview.
Click Publish to make the changes visible on your live Big Cartel store.
Open the published page in a new browser tab and make sure the Google Reviews Widget appears in the selected position.
Check the page on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Make sure the reviews are fully visible and do not overlap product information, images, buttons, forms, or other page content.
If the widget appears on more pages than expected, you probably edited a template shared by several storefront pages. Restore the original template from your backup if necessary and use a Custom Page or more specific template logic.
If the widget does not appear, reopen the page or template and confirm that both the <script> and <div> were saved.
If the installation code was added through Advanced Theme Code and you later switch or update your theme, restore the widget code from your downloaded theme backup.
You may also need to refresh the storefront, open it in a private browser window, or clear your browser cache.
Step 6: Publish and Check the Widget

Show the widget on All pages
Show It on All Pages of Your Website
Log in to your Big Cartel admin and open Shop designer. Depending on your admin interface, you may find it directly in the sidebar or under Shop settings → Shop designers.
Open the Code tab.
Plan requirement: Advanced Theme Code is available on Big Cartel's premium plans.
Scroll to the Advanced template code section and click Download your theme code before making site-wide changes.
Keep this backup in a safe place. Advanced Theme Code changes can be removed when you switch or update your Big Cartel theme.
Big Cartel's Integration Code section is useful for third-party scripts and tags that do not need a specific visual position. Because the Google Reviews Widget is static and includes a visible container, add its complete installation code to the shared Layout markup instead.
Step 1: Open Shop Designer and Back Up Your Theme

In the Code tab, scroll to the Advanced template code area and select Layout.
The Layout template contains the shared structure used across your Big Cartel storefront.
Changes made to this template can affect every storefront page that uses the main layout, so review the markup carefully before adding the widget.
Use the Shop designer preview to understand where the shared header, main content, and footer appear on your storefront.
Step 2: Open the Shared Layout Template

Find the opening <main> tag and the corresponding closing </main> tag in the Layout template.
To display the Google Reviews Widget above the main page content, add the installation code immediately after the opening <main> tag.
To display the widget below the main page content, add the code immediately before the closing </main> tag.
A position near the bottom of the main content and above the footer is usually suitable for a site-wide reviews section.
If your customized theme does not contain a <main> element, find the shared visible content wrapper used before the footer. Insert the widget code between complete HTML elements, or ask a developer to identify the correct position.
Keep the widget code inside the visible page layout. Do not paste it inside the <head>, another script, or an existing opening HTML tag.
Step 3: Choose a Site-Wide Widget Position

Paste the complete Google Reviews Widget installation code from your Widget House dashboard into the selected Layout position.
Keep the loading <script> and the Google Reviews <div> container together and in the original order.
Do not edit the script URL, widget ID, container ID, or any other part of the installation code.
Click Done to save the Layout changes.
Review the result in the Shop designer preview, then click Publish to apply the updated Layout to your live storefront.
The code shown in the screenshots is an example. Use the installation code generated for your own widget before publishing the theme.
Step 4: Paste the Widget Code and Publish the Theme

Open several live storefront pages, such as the home page, a product page, the cart page, the contact page, and a Custom Page if applicable.
The Google Reviews Widget should appear in the same intended position on every page that uses the shared Layout template.
Check the widget on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Make sure it is fully visible and does not overlap navigation, product information, cart controls, forms, buttons, or footer content.
Note: Big Cartel's checkout page is not editable and will not display custom content added through the shared Layout template.
If the widget is missing from another storefront page, that page may use a different template or flow that does not include the same Layout markup.
If the widget appears twice, check whether the installation code was also added directly to an individual page or another template.
If the Layout is broken, restore the original code from your downloaded theme backup and add the Widget House code again between complete HTML elements.
Advanced Theme Code changes do not carry over automatically when you switch or update your theme. Keep the backup and restore the widget code after a theme change if necessary.
If your latest changes are not visible, confirm that the theme was published and refresh the storefront in a private browser window.
Step 5: Check the Widget Across Your Big Cartel Store

All set. Your Google Reviews Widget should now be working on your Big Cartel store.
